Venus Study Drawing

from $70.00

Venus, goddess of love, at her birth, rose naked from the foam of the sea. Riding a scallop shell, she first stepped ashore on the island of Cythera. According to Hesiod, the sea foam was fertilized when the Titan Cronus slew his father, Uranus, severed his genitals and threw them into the sea. This would make her of an earlier generation than the Olympian gods Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Hestia, children of Cronus and Rhea.
